Spor hekimliğinde gen tedavisi

Year 1997, Volume: 31 Issue: 5, 502 - 505, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Gene therapy in sports medicine

Year 1997, Volume: 31 Issue: 5, 502 - 505, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Injured soft tissues trigger a cellular response which is necessary for recovery and regulated by specific proteins, namely growth factors like PDGF, TGF-B, BFGF, IGF-1 and BMP-2. Application of these factors via external route is not possible because of the very short half-life time. Thus, gene therapy with virus vectors is now being discussed to provide continuous growth factors. As briefly summarized in this review article experiments on animals and early results of clinical work and research demonstrate that it can be used in the treatment of sports injuries.
