This study was conducted to determine the relationship between disease perception and diabetes burden in the elderly with type 2 diabetes in nursing home residents. The study was designed as cross-sectional and correlational. Data were obtained with the "Data Collection Form", the "Burden of Diabetes in the Elderly Scale" and the "Disease Perception Scale". While the average age of the participants (n=85) was determined to be 73.14±7.38 years, the diabetes diagnosis time was found to be 10.30±10.21 years. In the study, it was determined that women had more disease symptoms and had higher social burden, duration (cyclic), and emotional representation scores compared to men. The total diabetes burden score average of the participants was found to be 29.32±8.73. It was determined that people with another disease in addition to diabetes had a higher diabetes burden. It was determined that the participants' diabetes burden was low and that individuals' disease perception was related to diabetes burden.
Bu çalışma, huzurevinde kalan tip 2 diyabetli yaşlı bireylerde hastalık algısı ve diyabet yükü arasındaki ilişkiyi saptamak amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışma kesitsel ve ilişki arayıcı nitelikte tasarlandı. Veriler, “Veri Toplama Formu”, “Yaşlılarda Diyabetin Yükü Ölçeği” ve “Hastalığı Algısı Ölçeği” ile elde edildi. Katılımcıların (n=85) yaş ortalaması 73,14±7,38 yıl olarak belirlenirken; diyabet tanı süresi 10,30±10,21 yıl olarak saptandı. Çalışmada kadınların hastalık belirtisinin daha fazla olduğu ve erkeklere kıyasla sosyal yük, süre (döngüsel) ve duygusal temsiller puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu belirlendi. Katılımcıların diyabet yükü toplam puan ortalaması 29,32±8,73 olarak saptandı. Diyabete ek başka bir hastalığı olan kişilerin diyabet yükünün daha yüksek olduğu belirlendi. Katılımcıların diyabet yükünün düşük düzeyde olduğu ve bireylerin hastalık algısının diyabet yükü ile ilişkili olduğu saptandı.
