Nationalism is one of the most discussed item in social sciences. Since the beginning of the first half of 21th century; studies of nation and nationalism appeared prominently in the academic literature and theoretical approaches have been derived within the framework of discussions of this circumstance. These are grouped into primordialist, ethno-symbolist and modernist theories of nationalism. Nation and nationalism theory developed by E. Gellner and B. Anderson; corresponds to the modernist theory of nationalism with phenomena such as industrial revolution, urbanization, literacy, culture, capitalism, communication tools, and the nation state. This article comparatively deals with E. Gellner and B. Anderson's views on the conditions under which the concepts of nation and nationalism are formed and what the nationalism is about.
