Entelektüel kavramı on dokuzuncu yüzyılınsonlarında ortaya çıkmıştır. Aydınlanmayla birlikte “entelektüeller” bilgininüretimi ve yayılması görevini üstlenmişlerdi. Entelektüel dediğimiz kesimyazar, şair, sanatçı gazeteci gibi toplumca bilinen kişilerden oluşuyordu.Entelektüeller hakikatin, ahlaki ve estetik değerlerin toplum içinde ortak birduyuyla oluşmasını sağlıyorlardı. Entelektüel kendi alanı dışına da çıkabilenve yaşadığı zamanda dünyaya ilişkin konularla ilgilenen kişiyi ifade ediyordu.Modernizmin karşısına postmodernizmin çıkması ve modernizmin hakikat krizinegirmesiyle, entelektüellerin konumu da sarsılmaya başlamıştır. Bu makaledeentelektüel kavramını modern dönem çerçevesinde değerlendiren Jurgen Habermas’la,postmodern dönem çerçevesinde değerlendiren Zygmunt Bauman’ın düşünceleriaçıklanıp, birbiriyle karşılaştırılmıştır.
The concept of intellectual emerged in the latenineteenth century. With the Enlightenment, "intellectuals" had takenon the task of creation and dissemination of information. What we calledintellectual was composed of people known by society such as writer, poet,artist journalist. Intellectuals provided the common sense of truth, moral andaesthetic values in society. The intellectual was the person who could also gooutside his field, and was interested in world matters at the time he lived.With the emergence of postmodernism against modernism and the fall of modernisminto the crisis of truth, the position of the intellectuals has begun to beshaken. In this study, the thoughts of Jurgen Habermas, who discussed theconcept of intellectual in the frame of the modern period, and the toughts ofZygmunt Bauman, who evaluated the same concept in the setting of the postmodernperiod were discussed and compared with each other.
