Anahtar Kelimeler: fonksiyonel lateralite, gömülü, diş çekimiRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HANDEDNESS AND POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS&amp;nbsp;IN&amp;nbsp;SURGICAL REMOVAL&amp;nbsp;OF&amp;nbsp;IMPACTED MANDIBULAR &amp;nbsp;THIRD MOLARSAim: Following the impacted third molar extraction, complications could bedeveloped on the operation site, such as poor oral hygiene, alveolar osteitis, and inflammation. The aim of the study was to investigate these complicationsfollowing the mandibular third molar extraction in patients with different handpreference.Material and Methods: Forty three patients who were indicated for bilateral surgical extractionof impacted mandibular third molars were included in the study. The intervalbetween the extraction of the right and left molars of the patient was 30 days. The patients were divided into four groups; 1) Left Handed- Right ImpactedMandibular Third Molar Extracted, 2) Left Handed- Left Impacted MandibularThird Molar Extracted, 3) Right Handed- Right Impacted Mandibular Third MolarExtracted, and 4) Right Handed- Left Impacted Mandibular Third Molar Extracted. The patients were evaluated for oral hygiene before and after the operation on7th day. The inflammation and the presence of alveolar osteitis were assessed on 2nd and 7thpostoperative days in all groups of patients. Results: Thestatistical significance was not observed between the groups regarding the oral hygiene,inflam-mation,and occurrence of alveolar osteitis.(P&amp;gt;0.05)Conclusion: The results suggest that hand preference may not be related to the developmentof inflammation, alveolar osteitis, and worsening of the oral hygiene following the mandibular third molar extraction. Keywords: functionallaterality, impacted, tooth extraction</p>
