Anahtar kelimeler: diş hekimliği tarihi, diş çürükleri, dental materyaller, diş amalgamı, kompozit dental rezin, cam iyonomer simanlarCaries and Restorative Materials from Past to PresentAbstractIn order to understand a science, it is necessary to read and know the past events. Knowing and understanding the history of dentistry allows us to make comparisons between the present and the past. In this way, both the current applications and developments in the field of dentistry are more easily understood. Therefore, the history of dentistry is given as a lesson in our dentistry faculties today.Tooth decay is a health problem that has affected humanity since its existence. Along with the settled life and changing dietary habits, tooth caries incidence tended to increase continuously until today. In prehistoric times, teeth were tried to be treated with herbal fibers and earth minerals in addition to extraction processes. With the developing technique, metal-containing fillers have been used and in recent times, composite, glass ionomer and bioactive materials were introduced. In this article, it is aimed to better understand the caries and the materials used in its treatment by focusing on the development of modern restorative materials. In this article, how the frequency of caries seen in human societies has increased throughout the ages and how the physicians applied treatment against this health problem with technique and technology within their periods were examined. In addition, by emphasizing the development process of modern restorative materials, it is aimed to better understand the caries and materials used in the treatment. Keywords: history of dentistry, dental caries, dental materials, dental amalgam, composite dental resin, glass ionomer cements</p>
