A QUESTIONNAIRE STUDY RELATED TO REASONS AND SOLUTIONS OF SEPERATION OF NICKEL TITANIUM INSTRUMENTS

ABSTRACT

Aim: The aim of this questionnaire study was to investigate the reasons of NiTi rotary instruments’ fracture and to find out the solutions, which can prevent this important treatment complication.

Material and methods: The questionnaire which contains these questions: Education level, average number of treated patients in a week, instruments used, usage frequency, the frequency of fracture complication, the reason of fracture, suggestions to prevent fracture; was delivered by e-mail to academician dentists serve in Department of Endodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Turkey. Data was taken again by e-mail. The analysis of the data was obtained by using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation in SPSS software (P < .05).

Results: It was not found a statistically significant correlation between which rotary system used and frequency of instrument fracture (P > 0.05). It was found a statistically significant correlation between frequency of instrument fracture and average number of treated patients in a week (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: In conclusion, “not to be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions” is declared as the most reason of root canal instruments’ fracture, and “to use a new nickel titanium instruments for every patients by buying either the university or the patients” is suggested as solution to this situation.
