Abstract

The Self-Assessments of Midwifery Students by Job Descriptions and Competency Areas Objective:This research has been carried out to find out the opinions of final year Higher Education Health School midwifery students about the the İnternational Confederation of Midwive’s Competency areas and The Ministry of Health job descriptions. Methods:The research consists of a total of 1049 final year midwifery students from 28 different Higher Education Health Schools. The first part of data-gathering is made up of the 15 items related to ICM competency domains and the second part consists of 15 item forms from the Ministry of Health. The research data has been evaulated in numerals and percentages. Results: As a result of research, it has been concluded that in the ICM competency domains the highest percentage of 93,9% “provides comprehensive, high quality, culturally sensitive postnatal care for women”, the most deficient areas found with 44,7% that it is necessary to provide high quality, culturally sensitive care during labour, conduct a clean and safe delivery, and handle selected emergency situations to maximize the health of women and their newborns at home.The most deficient areas by 44.7 %, " the woman's home at birth and sensitivy to the culture in order to protect the health of newborns, providing quality care , clean and safe childbirthing and to be able to intervene in case of emergency " is defined as .According to findings of research carried out by the The Ministry of Health the roles carried out by midwives at 98% satisfaction have been determined as “the recording of gender, height, weight, and the head and chest at birth”. The least efficient roles carried out have been determined as “evaluating high risk situations and decisions for transfers” at a rate of 58.2%.Conclusions:As a result of the research, there have been suggestions to strengthen the midwifery education and their careers

Abstract

ÖZET

Amaç: Bu araştırma, Sağlık Yüksekokulları Ebelik Bölümü son sınıf öğrencilerinin, ebelerin Sağlık Bakanlığı görev tanımları ve Uluslararası Ebeler Konfederasyonu yeterlilik alanlarına göre kendilerini değerlendirmeleri amacıyla yapılmıştır.

Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemini 28 Sağlık Yüksekokulu, Ebelik Bölümü son sınıf öğrencilerinin (N=1049) tamamı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracının birinci bölümü Uluslararası Ebeler Derneği Yeterlilik Alanlarını,  ikinci bölümü ise Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Sağlık Bakanlığı Ebelerin Görev Tanımları’ nı içeren formlar oluşturmuştur. Araştırma verileri; sayı ve yüzde olarak değerlendirilmiştir.

Bulgular: Uluslararası Ebeler Derneği Yeterlilik Alanları görüşlerine ilişkin bulgularda öğrencilerin kendilerini en yeterli gördüğü alan %93.9 ile “Lohusalık dönemindeki kadınlara nitelikli, kültüre dayalı bakım verebilmek için bilgi ve beceriye sahip olabilmek”, en yetersiz alanı ise %44.7 ile “Evde doğumlarda kadının ve yeni doğanın sağlığını korumak için kültüre duyarlı, nitelikli bakım sağlayıp, temiz ve güvenli doğum yaptırıp acil durumlarda müdahale edebilmek”  olarak belirlenmiştir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Sağlık Bakanlığı Ebelerin Görev Tanımları görüşlerine ilişkin bulgularda ise öğrencilerin en yeterli bulduğu alan %98 ile “Doğan bebeklerin cinsiyetini, boyunu, baş ve göğüs çevresini, kilosunu kaydetmek”, en yetersiz bulduğu alan ise  %58.2 ile “Doğumda riskli durumları değerlendirmek ve sevkine karar vermek”  olarak belirlenmiştir.

Sonuç: Araştırmanın sonuçları doğrultusunda ebelik mesleği görev tanımları ve yeterlilik alanları açısından ışık tutularak önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
