Abstract

Student ratings are one of the most common and effective means of faculty evaluation (Seldin, 1984). Faculty evaluation systems can serve both formative and summative purposes and student evaluation serves as a first line source of data regarding the effectiveness of their instructors. If a university system is to grow professionally it cannot avoid evaluation nor can it hide in an Ivory Tower expecting society to accept proclaimed infallibility for instruction methods, techniques or good intent. Given the human equation there is an element of unpredictability. Through staged modifications of the system, reliability and validity can be achieved (Centra, 1993). When used in combination with other methods a high degree of reliability can be expected
