IMPACT OF METAVERSE AND DIGITAL TWINS ON URBANIZATION

Abstract

Technological developments, particularly innovations like Web 3.0 and the Metaverse, hold transformative potential for the future of cities. Specifically, digital twins and AI-supported applications enable cities to operate with real-time data in critical areas such as energy management, urban transportation planning, and air quality, allowing for more efficient resource allocation and quicker solutions to urban challenges. In addition, digital twins and the Metaverse not only optimize urban governance and decision-making processes but also provide citizens with a more participatory and sustainable living environment. This study analyzes how digital twin and metaverse technologies have a transformative capacity for the future of urbanization through examples from various cities emerging in the World. Drawing on secondary sources and academic databases, the findings show that these technologies not only strengthen urban risk management by producing alternative urban planning styles on climate change and infrastructure supportbut also transform tourism and urban economies, and enhance social identity and a sense of belonging by digital participation tools, thereby contributing to sustainable urban development. In conclusion, digital twins and metaverse technologies could be important tools by offering innovative solutions for redesigning future urban spaces.

METAVERSE VE DİJİTAL İKİZLER’İN KENTLEŞMEYE ETKİLERİ

Abstract

ÖZET
Teknolojik ilerlemeler, özellikle son dönemlerde ortaya çıkan Web 3.0 ve Metaverse gibi yenilikler, kentleşmenin geleceği için dönüştürücü bir potansiyel barındırmaktadır. Özellikle dijital ikizler ve yapay zeka destekli uygulamalar, şehirlerin enerji yönetimi, ulaşım planlaması ve hava kalitesi gibi kritik alanlarda gerçek zamanlı verilerle çalışarak, kaynakların daha verimli kullanılmasına ve kentsel sorunlara daha hızlı çözümler bulunmasına olanak sağlamaktadır. Bununla birlikte Dijital İkizler ve Metaverse, kentsel yönetimi ve karar alma süreçlerini optimize ederken, şehir sakinlerine de daha katılımcı ve sürdürülebilir bir yaşam ortamı sunmaktadır. Çalışma, dijital ikiz ve metaverse teknolojilerinin kentleşmenin geleceğine yönelik ne türde dönüştürücü potansiyele sahip olduğunu, çeşitli şehirlerdeki örnek projeler üzerinden analiz etmektedir. İkincil kaynaklara ve akademik veri tabanlarına dayanan bulgular, bu teknolojilerin iklim değişikliği mücadelesi ve altyapı oluşturma konularında alternatif kentsel planlama biçimleri üreterek kentsel risk yönetimi geliştirdiği, turizmi ve kentsel ekonomiyi desteklediğini, dijital katılım araçları ile sosyal kimlik ve aidiyet duygusunu pekiştirerek sürdürülebilir kentsel gelişime katkı sağladığını göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak, dijital ikizler ve metaverse teknolojileri, kentsel mekânın yeniden tasarlanmasında geliştirdiği yenilikçi çözümler ile şehirlerin geleceğini şekillendirmede önemli ipuçları sunmaktadır.
