Today, it is an undeniable fact that social media facilitates people's lives in many ways. However, social media does not only have positive and facilitating effects. At the same time, intensive and unconscious use of social media can lead to many negative effects. Social media addiction, social media fatigue, and academic performance decrement are among the negative effects of intensive use of social media. Students fail to manage the time they allocate for social media platforms, and this has a negative impact on their academic success. Again, university students may forget or postpone their homework and responsibilities due to the pleasure they get from using social media. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of social media addiction on academic performance decrement. In order to realize this purpose, quantitative research methods were used, and data were collected from 400 university students through face-to-face survey techniques. As a result of the research, the effect of social media addiction on social media fatigue and academic performance decrement was determined. In addition, social media fatigue mediates the relationship between social media addiction and academic performance decrement.
