<p>The present study employs social network analysis to examine the sale process of governer of Hüdavendigar Sanjak Mustafa Pasha&#039;s goods through a confiscation record dated 1778. The objective of the research is to demonstrate that consumption practices in the Ottoman provinces were not solely economic but also cultural practices related to status, identity and social hierarchy. The classification of 183 items of goods recorded in the ledger according to their level of luxury and their matching with the title/occupation profiles of the buyers demonstrates that consumption is indicative of the dynamics of social homophily and distiction. The elevated costs of luxury items, including silk fabrics, silvery accoutrements and rare armaments, underscore the status-defining role of these objects. A salient finding of the study was that goods were transported from Bursa to Istanbul and subsequently placed on sale at Muhsinzâde Han, with the majority of buyers being bedestan merchants. This demonstrates how provincial goods were transformed into symbolic capital by merchants in the centre. Social network analysis demonstrates that while designated groups such as &quot;bey&quot;, &quot;efendi&quot; and &quot;agha&quot; were prominent in luxury consumption, non-titled yet affluent individuals could also assume central positions.</p></trans-abstract>
