                            <p>NPY 1982 yılında domuz beyninden izole edilmiş daha sonrada in- san beyninde yaygın olarak dağıldığı saptanmış endojenöz bir pep- tiddir. Peptidin amino ve karboksil terminallerinde Tirozin amino- asidinin bulunması nedeniyle bu isim verilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmalar- da NPY beyinde diğer peptidlerden daha fazla miktarlarda bulunmuş- tur. Bu nedenle fizyolojik ve patotizyolojik durumlarda önemli biyo- lojik aktiviteye sahip olabileceği düşünülerek üzerinde yoğun bir ilgi odaklanmıştır. Radioimmünoassay ve immünositokimyasal değerlen- dirmelerde NPY gerek santralde gerekse periferde hemen daima ka- tekolaminerjik sistemlerde lokalize olduğu görülmüştür. Bu ko-peptid özelliği onun katekolaminlerle pre ve/veya postsinaptik düzeyde et- kileşerek veya tek basına nörotransmitter/nöromodülatör gibi etkili olabileceğini düşündürür. Gerçektende ilk bulgular bunu destekler gö- rünümdedir. Mevcut araştırma sonuçlarından ortak bir yere ulaşmak şu an için güç görünmekle birlikte hem peptidin literatüre yeni girmiş olması hemde teknik olanakların yetersizliği nedeniyle peptid hakkında son sözü söylemek için vakit henüz erkendir.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>NPY is an endogenous peptide isolated from pig brain in 1982 and later found to be widely distributed in human brain. This name was given because of the presence of Tyrosine amino acid at the amino and carboxyl termini of the peptide. Studies have shown that NPY is found in higher amounts in the brain than other peptides. For this reason, it has been focused on with great interest, considering that it may have important biological activity in physiological and pathophysiological conditions. In radioimmunoassay and immunocytochemical evaluations, it has been observed that NPY is almost always localized in catecholaminergic systems, both centrally and peripherally. This co-peptide feature suggests that it may be effective as a neurotransmitter/neuromodulator by interacting with catecholamines at pre- and/or postsynaptic levels or alone.
