Pectus Excavatum has long been observed as a harmless thoracic deformation only cosmetically. In Pectus Excavatum, there is a decrease in heart capacity due to pressure on the sternum. Pulmonary functions are less affected in an unexpected way. The pathogenesis of Pectus Excavatum has not yet been resolved. Although the results of the operation are good in childhood, they are quite bad in older ages. In older patients, if cardiorespiratory functions are detected as obvious and recorded in advanced degrees during examinations, the procedure is considered.

Pectus Excavatum uzun süre yalnız kozmotik olarak zararsız bir thorax deformasyonu şeklinde müşahade edilmiştir.Pectus Excavatumda sternum baskısı ile kalb fonksiyonlarında azalma olur. Pulmoner fonksiyonlar ise ümid edilmeyen bir tarzda daha az etki altına girer. Pectus excavatumun patogenezi hala çözümlenememiştir. Çocukluk yaşlarında operasyon neticeleri iyi olmasına rağmen ileri yaşlarda oldukça kötüdür. Yaşı ilerlenıiş olanlarda, kardiyorespiratuvar fonksiyonlar yapılan muayenelerle aşikar ve ileri derecede bozulmuş olarak tesbit edilirse operasyon söz konusudur.
