It has been suggested that they are related to ion transport into the cell (11, 6) or that some ions settle and accumulate on them (2, 4), that their structure is mainly composed of neutral lipids (8), and that they are phospholipids (12). In this study, the structure of intramitochondrial granules of the renal cortex proximal tubule and their relationship with the accumulation or transport of some cations were examined at the electron microscopic level with a cytochemical approach.
