The result of the massive bleeding from esophagcal varices are often fatal-The patients with varices are oflen in a masssive bleeding state, and for this reason the diagnosis should be made immediatelyThe best method for the controle of acute bleeding is balloon tamponade. The patients must be protected from ammonia intoxication. Advocated method for the decompression of portal hypertansion is porta-cava shunt procedure. The selection of the patients play an important role about the prognosis.

1. Oesophagus varisleri ekseriya ölümle sonlanan masif kanamalara sebeb olurlar.2. Hastalar ekseriya masif kanama tablosu içinde müracaat ettikleri için kanamanın sebebini acil olarak tesbit etmek mühimdir.3. Balon tamponmanı kanamanın akut fazını kontrol için tercih edilen metoddur.4. Hastanın amonyak entoksikasyonundan korunması icap eder.5. Portal hipertansionu bertaraf etmek için tercih edilen metod portakaval shuni ameliyatıdır.6. Prognozu hastaların iyi seçilmesi tayin eder.
