An analysis of the forceps operation at the Obstetrics Department the Ankara Faculty of Medicine is presented. Our survey has been based upon our experience with 5320 cases of which 284 delivered by forceps. In carefully selected 22 case, we performed high forceps. No fetal or maternal mortality occured. Since maternal and fetal morbidity carried no danger, we still consider high forceps as a useful obstetric procedure.In 164 cases we have performed mid - forceps operation. Intrauterin fetal asphyxia and prolonged labor were the usual indications. Maternal complications arose in 9 17 of the cases, Lacerationof perineum, vagina and cervix occured. Corrected still birth rate of O and neonatal death of 05 g Was found, We belive that mid forceps operations hold their distinct place in obstetrics.Although we have applicated low forceps in 97 cases, we do not believe the necessity of prophylaetic forceps operations.

A.Ü. Tıp Fakültesinde uygulanan forseps operasyonlarının bir analizini sunduk. Çalışmamız 5320 doğumdan forsep& uygulanan 284 vak'aya aittir. 22 vak'ada yüksekte forseps uyguladık. Fötalve maternal ölüm olmadı. Görülen fötal ve maternal morbidite tehlikeli olmadığı için yüksekte forsepsi yararlı bir obstetrik müdahale olarak kabul ediyoruz.164 vak'ada orta havsalada forseps uyguladık. İntrauterin fötal asfiksi ve ağrı zaafı başlıca endikasyonlardı. 4 17 vak'ada maternel komplikasyon gördük. Perine ve serviks yırtıkları vuku buldu. İntrauterin fötal ölüm 94 0, neonatal ölüm ise 9 0,5 oranında bulundu. Orta havsalada forsepsin obstetrikte önemini koruduğuna inanıyoruz.97 vak'ada çıkımda forseps uygulamış olmamıza rağmen, profilaktik forsepsin lüzumuna kani değiliz.
