<p>This review examines the pharmacological properties and clinical utility of Streptokinase (SK) and Streptodornase (SD), two agents derived from beta-hemolytic streptococci. Streptokinase functions by activating the fibrinolytic system in human plasma, thereby liquefying fibrin clots, while Streptodornase targets the viscosity of purulent exudates by depolymerizing desoxyribonucleoprotein. The study details the successful application of these enzymes in treating hemothorax, post-pneumonic empyema, and tuberculous meningitis. Cytological investigations reveal that SK and SD injections trigger a significant increase in viable leucocytes and enhance phagocytic activity within inflammatory sites. Comparative clinical data demonstrate that the addition of SK to streptomycin therapy increases the survival rate in tuberculous meningitis from 25% to 58%.</p></trans-abstract>
