<p>The aim of this study is to examine summer learning loss in mathematics among students attending schools in socioeconomically disadvantaged regions of Van province, from the perspective of mathematics teachers working in these schools. A phenomenological multiple case study design, one of the nested qualitative research approaches, was employed. The participants consisted of five volunteer mathematics teachers working in the five most socioeconomically disadvantaged districts of Van. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that mathematics learning loss during the summer break is not a superficial or temporary issue for students in disadvantaged schools; rather, it is a persistent educational problem with pedagogical and affective consequences. The study highlights the cumulative nature of summer learning loss in mathematics, showing its disruptive effect on classroom learning processes and its potential to cause decreased motivation and academic disengagement. It was also found that teachers’ actions to prevent learning loss before the summer and to remediate it afterward are largely based on individual initiative. Teachers’ experiences underline the need for inclusive educational policies aimed at preventing and addressing summer learning loss in mathematics among students in disadvantaged areas, and the study offers a set of recommendations accordingly.</p></trans-abstract>
