<p>Aronia berry (Aronia melanocarpa) is native to North America. It was brought to Russia in the first years of the twentieth century, then was introduced for cultivation to Eastern Europe and Scandinavian countries. Today aronia is being cultivated commercially on almost ten-thousand-hectare area. Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latonia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and the US are among the aronia producer countries. Poland accounts for about 90 percent of world production with 50 thousand tons of annual production. In the US, commercial cultivation began in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin after 2009. In Turkey, first studies began in Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute in 2012 with plant production, and a plantation was established on the testing area of the institute. In 2014, small orchards were established in Yalova and Kırklareli. Commercial cultivation began in 2017 with the establishment of larger orchards particularly in Marmara and Black Sea Regions. Today, aronia is cultivated in Yalova, Kırklareli, Manisa, İstanbul, Sakarya, Samsun, Giresun, Bursa, Bilecik, Tekirdağ and Çanakkale provinces. Since, aronia yields in the second year after plantation; its fruits can both be processed and consumed freshly, and sold at quite good prices, the interest for aronia production keeps growing. Aronia industry is considered to grow with the increase of its production in Turkey. The aim of this article is to give information about aronia cultivation areas in Turkey and in the world, and to put forward the current state of aronia cultivation in Turkey.</p></trans-abstract>
