<p>OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted in order to compare breastfeeding tendencies and breastfeeding self-efficacy of mothers whose baby staying in newborn intensive care unit. METHODS: Mothers of newborn babies who are having treatment in &quot;Newborn Intensive Care Unit&quot; in Erzurum a state hospital between the dates of September 2013 and January 2014 and volunteered to participate in the study constituted the population of the study which was conducted as descriptive. (n: 175). Personal information form, Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES), the IOWA Infant Feeding Attitude Scale and method of face-to-face meeting in breast milking rooms in clinic were used for data collection. Percentage distribution, T-tests for independent group, Cronbach&#039;s alpha coefficient, KW and MWU tests were used for evaluation of the research results. RESULTS: When the distribution of average points of Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES) and the IOWA Infant Feeding Attitude Scale were examined, it was found that Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale point average was 57.69±8.86, IOWA Infant Feeding Attitude Scale point average was 65.57±6.66, there is no any significant relationship between groups statistically (p&amp;gt;0.05), IOWA Infant Feeding Attitude Scale point average of mothers who are 36 years old and over with education level of university and working outside of the house and planned their pregnancy are higher than the others and the difference between the groups in this manner is statistically significant (p&amp;lt;0.05) and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale point average of mothers who have breastfeeding experience is higher than the others (p&amp;lt;0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Although it cannot be found a relationship between Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy and Infant Feeding Attitude; it was determined that some descriptive characteristics of mother, pregnancy and breastfeeding affect the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy and Infant Feeding Attitude of the mother.</p></trans-abstract>
