To improve the physical and mechanical properties of MDF, poplar wood fibers (Populus euramericana I-214)
were modified with succinic anhydride before the board manufacturing. During MDF production urea
formaldehyde was used at 5% and 8% concentration. Gravity, rupture modulus, tensile strength, water
absorption, thickness swelling and hardness on MDF boards produced from control and succinylated fibers were
investigated. While modulus of rupture and tensile strength of MDF produced from succinylated fibers were increased, water
absorption, thickness swelling and hardness of these MDF were decreased.
