The purpose of this
study is to determine the levels of educational behaviour, communication and
openness that school principals have. In this study, a mixed
method, in which quantitative and qualitative methods are combined, is used as
data collection technique. The study was
supported by qualitative data after quantitative data were obtained. The quantitative data were collected from a total of
410 teachers working in primary and secondary schools located in the centre of
Sivas province in 2014-2015 education year. The
school leadership scale, which was
adapted by Uğurlu, Beycioğlu, and Özer (2011), was used in the study in order to reveal the opinions of the
teachers about the school leadership. To
analyze data, t test and one-way analysis of variance were performed. The
qualitative data were collected from 15
teachers working in 5 elementary schools from which quantitative data were collected. In the analysis parallel to the three dimensions
included in the scale, the views for each dimension were divided into positive
negative themes, and the teachers’ opinions on the leadership behaviors of
school principals were coded based on these themes. Content analysis method was used to analyze the
qualitative data. Teacher opinions about
school leadership differ according to branch, seniority, the number of teachers
at school, graduate faculty variables but not according to gender variable. In
line with the teachers' views, the fact is that school principals take
cognizance of educational dimension mostly, then communication dimension and
lastly openness dimension.
