AĞRI KLİNİĞİNE BAŞVURAN KRONİK AĞRILI HASTALARIN GERİYE DÖNÜK DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ: İKİ YILLIK DENEYİMLERİMİZ Retrospective Evaluation of Chronic Pain Patients Attending to Pain Clinic: Our Two Years Experiences

Year 2019, Volume: 9 Issue: 1, 22 - 27, 26.03.2019

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Objective and aim: Our aim in this study is to retrospectively evaluate the pain types, demographic
characteristics and treatments of the patients who complained pain in the first 2 years to the pain clinic that
was opened for the first time in our hospital.
Materials and Methods: We reviewed the files of patients who had chronic pain at XXXX Training and
Research Hospital pain clinic between January 2016 and December 2017. Patients' pain types, demographic
characteristics, and applied treatments were evaluated retrospectively.
Results: 6545 patients with chronic pain were admitted to our clinic for two years. 4199 of the patients
were female (64.15%) and 2346 were male (35.85%). The most common causes of non-cancer pain; back
pain, myofascial pain, and neuropathic pain. The number of patients who applied with the cause of cancer
pain (CP) was 358 (5.46%). The most common causes were gastrointestinal system cancer, lung cancer and
breast cancer. All of the patients were found to have medical treatment and interventional pain therapy in
addition to the 728 (11.12%) patients. The most common interventional pain management methods are;
trigger point injection, facet nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation, epidural steroid applications, and
dorsal root ganglion radiofrequency application.
Conclusion: Pain clinics and the number of patients are constantly increasing. We believe that these results
of our center established in our hospital 2 years ago and addressing high population regions will be an
important data source for chronic pain studies.
Keywords: Pain; Pain clinic; Group of patients
