MEVSİMSEL FARKLILIKLARIN BELL’S PARALİZİSİ SIKLIĞI VE EVRESİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİLERİ The Effect of Seasonal Changes on Frequency and Stage in Bell’s Palsy

Year 2020, Volume: 10 Issue: 1, 171 - 175, 25.03.2020

Abstract

Bulgular: Çalışmamıza 105’ i (%47,3) kadın, 117’ si (%52,7) erkek olmak üzere toplam 222 hasta dâhil edildi.

ABSTRACT
Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate whether or not seasonal changes affected disease stages
evaluated with House-Brackmann scoring (HBS) system in patients undergoing Bell’s palsy (BP).
Materials and Methods: Data of 222 patients, between 20-80 years of age, who were examined and
diagnosed with BP between August 2015 and August 2019 at a tertiary hospital Ears, Nose and Throat
outpatient clinic were retrospectively evaluated. Grading according to HBS and seasonal changes were
assessed.
Results: A total of 222 patients, in which 105 were female and 117 were male, were included in the study.
Mean patient age was 39.28±19.20 years. According to grading of the patients, most patients were Grade III
(36.5%), while Grade II was least common (13.9%). According to statistical analysis, there was a significant
difference between the grades based on seasonal changes. Grade IV and grade V were dominant in autumn
and winter months.
Conclusion: BP grading of disease ise affected by seasonal changes. In addition, we think that different
scientific studies about the effect of regional differences on BP stage in our country will contribute to the
literature.
