ÇOCUKLARDA D VİTAMİNİ EKSİKLİĞİNİN ÜRİNER İNKONTİNANS ÜZERİNE ETKİLERİ The Effects of Vitamin D Deficiency on Urinary Incontinence in Children

Year 2020, Volume: 10 Issue: 1, 207 - 210, 25.03.2020

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Objective: Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that most significant effect on the musculoskeletal system by its
calcium metabolism role. This suggests that it will be effective in urinary and fecal continence mechanisms
with its effects on pelvic floor muscles. Our study was conducted to investigate the relationship between
vitamin D deficiency and urinary incontinence (UI) in children.
Materials and method: A survey was conducted to investigate UI in children with vitamin D deficiency. 100
randomly selected patients over 5 years of age with vitamin D levels below 30 ng / dl were included in the
study. UI, constipation and encopresis were questioned.
Results: Fiftythree girls and 47 boys with a mean age of 10.1 (5-16) years were evaluated. The mean vitamin
D level was found to be 15.42 (4.7-26.36) ng / dl. UI was found to be 20%, constipation 31% and encopresis
3% in children with vitamin D deficiency. In total, 40% of 100 patients had one or more of these symptoms
Conclusion: In our study, we found that an association between vitamin D deficiency and UI in children.
Further studies on vitamin D in the pathogenesis and treatment of UI in children are needed.
Key words: Urinary incontinence; Vitamin D deficiency; Children
