<p>Pomegranate was known as an important fruit, especially in the Mediterranean basin, since ancient times. Pomegranate, which was consumed both as a source of food and with its symbolic meanings in culture, took its place in various artistic productions. Pomegranate stands out as a symbol of fertility and life, especially in Egyptian, Anatolian, Hellenistic and Roman cultures. In ancient Egypt, pomegranate was especially associated with the belief in rebirth and the afterlife. Egyptians believed that pomegranate brought the dead to life and that this fruit helped them find fertility in life and after. Pomegranate is especially remembered in ancient mythology with the story of Persephone and Hades. For this reason, pomegranate was associated with the life cycle and seasonal changes. During the Roman period, pomegranate was consumed as a symbol of wealth and fertility. Pomegranate juice was used as a sweetener in meals. It was also important as a symbol of war and victory. In Rome, pomegranate was used especially in weddings and celebrations, and was also offered as an offering for couples to have a fertile life. In ancient times, pomegranate was thought to have many health benefits. It was considered a fruit known for its antioxidant properties, supporting the digestive system and strengthening the immune system. In addition, pomegranate seeds and juice were used as a natural product in the treatment of various diseases. In ancient times, pomegranate was not only a food source, but also had a deep philosophical meaning with its cultural and symbolic meanings. Pomegranate, shaped around themes such as fertility, life and health, has taken place in many social rituals and beliefs throughout history.</p></trans-abstract>
