The aim of this study is to reveal the information needs and information seeking behaviors of prospective Turkish teachers and to determine their expectations from information services and to develop suggestions in this direction. Special case method based on qualitative research method was used in the research. The study group of the research was selected from among the Turkish teacher candidates on the basis of volunteerism by criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The study group of the research consists of a total of 168 Turkish language teacher candidates, 40 of whom are 1st grade, 42 of whom are 2nd grade, 47 of whom are 3rd grade and 39 of whom are 4th grade at Necmettin Erbakan University Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education. For semi-structured interviews, four students, two girls and two boys from each class, and 16 students in total were selected. Questionnaire form and semi-structured interview form were used as data collection tools in the study. Frequency (f) and percentage (%) descriptive statistics techniques were used to analyze the data collected from the questionnaire form. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using the content analysis technique, one of the qualitative data analysis techniques. As a result of the research, it was determined that prospective Turkish teachers rarely use the library physically, they use the library as a study environment, remote access to electronic resources is provided, but the rate of use is low, printed books are preferred as the primary source of information, but the rate of those who prefer both printed and electronic resources is quite high. Another noteworthy result is that Turkish language teacher candidates do not use library databases, do not use Boolean operators that make the search more focused and efficient, look at the first three pages of the search result pages, give importance to the accuracy of the information, and finally, when the desired search results cannot be reached, they turn to other sources. The findings and results revealed the need to improve the collections and services of university/faculty libraries and the content of information literacy programs. Considering the lack of studies on this subject in Türkiye and the fact that the studies conducted in other disciplines related to pre-service teachers are not contemporary, this study is thought to make a significant contribution to the literature. The original value of this study is to comprehensively investigate the information needs and information seeking behaviors of pre-service Turkish teachers, to make inferences based on the research results and literature, and to contribute to the literature on this subject.
Bu araştırmanın amacı; Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının bilgi gereksinimleri ile bilgi arama davranışlarını ortaya koymak ve bilgi hizmetlerinden beklentilerini belirleyerek bu doğrultuda öneriler geliştirmektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemine dayalı özel durum yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu Türkçe öğretmeni adayları içerisinden gönüllük esasına göre amaçlı örneklem yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme alma yöntemiyle seçilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi Ahmet Keleşoğlu Eğitim Fakültesinde 40’ı 1. sınıf, 42’si 2. sınıf, 47’si 3. sınıf ve 39’u 4. sınıf olmak üzere toplamda 168 Türkçe öğretmeni adayı oluşturmaktadır. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler için ise her sınıftan iki kız iki erkek olacak biçimde dört, toplamda 16 öğrenci belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak anket formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Anket formundan toplanan verilerin analizinde frekans (f) ve yüzde (%) betimsel istatistik teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler ise nitel veri analizi tekniklerinden biri olan içerik analizi tekniği kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının kütüphaneden fiziki olarak nadiren yararlandıkları, kütüphaneyi ders çalışma ortamı olarak kullandıkları, elektronik kaynaklara uzaktan erişim bağlantısı sağlandığı ancak kullanma oranının düşük olduğu, öncelikli bilgi kaynağı olarak basılı kitapların tercih edildiği ancak hem basılı hem de elektronik kaynakları tercih edenlerin oranının da oldukça yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Dikkat edilecek bir diğer sonuç ise Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının kütüphane veri tabanlarını kullanmadıkları, aramanın daha odaklı ve verimli olmasını sağlayan Boolean operatörlerini kullanmadıkları, arama sonuç sayfalarının ilk üç sayfasına baktıkları, bilginin doğruluğuna önem verdikleri ve son olarak istenilen arama sonuçlarına ulaşılamadığında başka kaynaklara yöneldikleri tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ve sonuçlar Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının üniversite/fakülte kütüphanelerinin koleksiyonlarının, hizmetlerinin ve bilgi okuryazarlığı programı içeriklerinin geliştirilmesine duyulan ihtiyacı ortaya koymuştur. Hem ülkemizde bu konuda yeteri kadar çalışma yapılmamış olması hem de öğretmen adayları ile ilgili diğer disiplinlerde yapılan çalışmaların yakın tarihli olmaması göz önünde bulundurulduğunda bu çalışmanın alan yazına önemli katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Türkçe öğretmeni adaylarının bilgi gereksinimlerini ve bilgi arama davranışlarını kapsamlı olarak araştırıp, araştırma sonucuna ve literatüre dayanarak çıkarımlarda bulunmak ve bu konuda alan yazınına katkı sağlamak bu çalışmanın özgün değerini oluşturmaktadır.
