CALESS recognizes that artificial intelligence and generative AI tools are increasingly utilized in academic research, writing, translation, and data analysis. This policy ensures transparency, accountability, and originality throughout the publication process.

• Authorship Criteria: Artificial intelligence systems, generative AI tools, large language models, and chatbots cannot be listed as authors or coauthors. Authorship implies intellectual contribution, legal responsibility, and final manuscript approval, none of which an AI system can fulfill.
• Author Responsibilities: Authors may use AI tools for limited purposes such as language improvement, formatting assistance, or data processing support. However, authors remain fully accountable for the validity, originality, and accuracy of the content. They must ensure AI assisted outputs do not contain fabricated data, inaccurate citations, copyright infringements, or undisclosed paraphrasing.
• Disclosure Requirements: Authors must formally disclose any significant use of generative AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. This includes text generation, translation assistance, content summarization, or image generation affecting the intellectual content. Routine tools for spelling and basic grammar checks do not require disclosure. Approved disclosures should be placed in the acknowledgments section or another designated area of the manuscript.
• Use of AI by Reviewers: To protect intellectual property and maintain confidentiality, reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading or sharing unpublished manuscripts, excerpts, or editorial communications into publicly accessible AI systems or third party AI platforms.
• Ethical Enforcement: The journal reserves the right to request clarification regarding AI use during editorial processing or peer review. Failure to disclose significant AI utilization, or the submission of misleading AI generated content, may result in manuscript rejection, article retraction, or other formal editorial actions.
