<p>Julia Donaldson’s award-winning book The Gruffalo was translated into Turkish twice within a short span of time due to the transfer of the publishing rights from one publishing house to another. Gruffalo, the title given to the book and the main character of the book, translated as Tostoraman in the first translation evolved into Yayazula with this change. It is against this background that the paper attempts to examine the sound related translating strategies of the same source text. By comparing the two translations with the source text and with each other, the paper attempts to reveal the strategies resorted to by the two translations/translators/publishing houses. The paper argues that Tostoraman creates the effect aimed to be created in the source culture through attaching more importance on the use of sounds, rhyme, alliteration and the fonts. It is hoped that the paper contributes to the retranslation studies in children’s literature by shedding light on the strategies, and effects of the different translations.</p></trans-abstract>
