Abstract
Engelli çocuklar, çocuk istismarı ve ihmali riskinin yüksek olduğu savunmasız bir gruptur ve bu nedenle, bu riski azaltmak için özel ilgiyi hak ederler. Şüpheli istismar ve ihmalin tespiti, sadece mevcut durumu tedavi etmek için değil, aynı zamanda çocuğu daha sonraki, belki de daha ciddi bir yaralanmadan korumak için gereklidir. Bakıcı veya ebeveynler ile işbirliği içinde, multidisipliner bir yaklaşımın geliştirilmesi çok önemlidir. Bakıcılar nadiren çocuğa zarar vermeyi amaçlar. Çocuk hekimleri ve diğer sağlık hizmeti görevlileri, engelli çocukların çok daha yüksek risk altında olduğunu kabul ederek bu çocuklara yönelik olası ihmal ve istismarın önlenmesi, tanımlanması ve değerlendirilmesinde aktif rol oynamaktadır.
