Special Issue Dedicated to Professor Francesco Altomare
On the Occasion of His 70th Birthday
This Special Issue is dedicated to Professor Francesco Altomare who is currently Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Bari Aldo Moro, on the occasion of his 70th birthday (to be celebrated on 18 May, 2021), and in honor of his many achievements in real and functional analysis.
In view of Professor Francesco Altomare’ s substantial contributions to the fields of operator theory and approximation theory, it has been decided that it is time to dedicate a Special Issue in Constructive Mathematical Analysis (CMA) to him. As editorial board members, it has been our privilege and great pleasure to meet and learn from his excellent research results and life experiences not only at conferences, but also when he has kindly accepted to be an editorial board member of CMA.
There is no doubt that Professor Francesco Altomare has influenced innumerable researchers in the field over the decades of his academic career, many of whom, we hope, may contribute to this Special Issue.
Professor Francesco Altomare was born in Giovinazzo (Bari, Italy), in 1951, and started his carrier in Mathematics at University of Bari Aldo Moro, where he obtained his B.Sc. in 1975. He was a senior research fellow from 1975 until 1978 at the Institute of Mathematical Analysis of the University of Bari Aldo Moro. From 1978 until 1985 and then until 1987 he has been assistant professor and associated professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Bari Aldo Moro. He became a full professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Basilicata (Potenza, Italy) in 1987 and in 1990 he has held a professorship at the University of Bari Aldo Moro were he is currently employed.
During his career he has held important institutional positions within the Universities where he worked, showing a great commitment in academic life. Member of the Academic Senate of the University of Bari Aldo Moro from 2012 to 2018. He is member of the Scientific Committee of Italian Mathematical Union and as well as he is a member of the European Mathematical Society. Prof. Altomare has Editorial position in many prestigious journals, of course, we have to mention here that he is the founding editor of Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics and is editor in chief since foundation and he contributed to the organization of six editions of the international meeting in Functional Analysis and Approximation theory (FAAT) held in Acquafredda di Maratea (Potenza, Italy) from 1989 until 2009.
The main areas of the scientific interests of Professor Francesco Altomare are Real and Functional Analysis (Choquet representation theory, Choquet boundaries, continuous function spaces, function algebras and Banach algebras, locally convex vector lattices, positive linear forms and applications to abstract Potential Theory and Harmonic Analysis), Operator Theory (Positive operators, semigroups of operators, differential operators and applications to evolution equations), Approximation Theory (Korovkin-type approximation theory, positive approximation processes, approximation of semigroups by means of positive operators).
Professor Francesco Altomare’ s over 45 years of Professorship have been very successful and productive, moreover he has been truly dedicated to teaching in Mathematics. The main results of the above-mentioned researches are documented in more than 90 papers published in scientific journals, conference proceedings and special issues as well as in the monographs: Korovkin-type Approximation Theory and its Applications (jointly with M. Campiti), de Gruyter Series Studies in Mathematics, 17, W. de Gruyter & Co. Publ. Comp., Berlin, New York, 1994. Markov Operators, Positive Semigroups and Approximation Processes (jointly with M. Cappelletti Montano, V. Leonessa and I. Raşa), de Gruyter Studies in Mathematics, 61, Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Munich/Boston, 2014.
Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at https://dergipark.org.tr/en/pub/cma until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed in accordance with the regular review process of CMA. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website.
