It is quite clear that periodicals burden significant roles in the social life with respect
to both one of the active writing locations in which intellectuals share their views and
comments regarding life and society with the public opinion and reflecting conditions and
intellectual climate of their periods. A similar analysis seems likely in line with the intellectual
correlation between the Yurt ve Dünya magazine published in Turkey at the 1940s’ and
Turkish sociologist Niyazi Berkes as one of its publishers. Thus, Yurt ve Dünya magazine left
deep traces in the Turkish intellectual life, particularly as being a single opposition periodical
published by leftist academician-intellectual communities of Ankara in the 1940s. The aim of this paper is to study aspects of that intellectual interaction. This issue had a significant place
in the intellectual progress of Niyazi Berkes while analyzing the publishing period of Yurt ve
Dünya in line with its effects on the socio-political life of that era.
