On The Comparison between Semantics and Delâlet and the Content of Concept of Anlambilim
Abstract
In parallel to efforts of reinterpreting Quran, some new concepts
have been entered in the Islamic literature. The most significant
and the most widely used one among these concepts is the concept
of semantics. The concept of “semantics”, which is translated
into Turkish as “anlambilim”, is translated into Arabic as “ilmü’ddelâle”.
However, expressing the concept of semantics through
these would also cause a contradiction in terms since the concept of “ilmü’d-delâle” is known by scholars in the Islamic world. On
the other hand, the concept of semantics, used in many different
meanings in the Western world, cannot be advised to meet all aspects
of the science of “delâlet ”. This study arises from the need
to make a comparison among these concepts in order for us to be
able to use them properly. In addition, some suggestions on what
the concept of “anlambilim” should be are included in this study
