<p>This study aims to examine the mediating role of social anxiety in the relationship between repetitive thoughts (rumination) and loneliness among university students. The research was conducted with a total of 512 students, 409 of whom were female (79.9%) and 103 were male (20.1%). The participants&#039; ages ranged between 18 and 24, with a mean age of 20.07. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the UCLA Loneliness Scale, the Social Anxiety Scale, and the Positive and Negative Rumination Scale. To test the mediating role of social anxiety in the relationship between repetitive thoughts and loneliness, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied. The findings revealed that social anxiety has a significant positive relationship with both repetitive thoughts and loneliness. Additionally, a positive correlation was found between rumination and loneliness. The most significant finding of the study is that social anxiety plays a mediating role in the relationship between rumination and loneliness. This result suggests that social anxiety may be a contributing factor to the increased loneliness experienced by university students who engage in persistent repetitive thinking The findings are discussed within the context of the existing literature.</p></trans-abstract>
