The Sheik al-Islams, who held the highest positions within the Ottoman Ilmiya organization, gained prominence in history by issuing fatwas, familial connections, and, notably, their attitudes towards political authority. Among these esteemed figures, Sheik al-Islam Mahmad Jamaladdin Efendi emerged as a significant individual during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, garnering attention not only for his scholarly contributions but also for his insights into political and economic spheres. He occupied a prominent position within the Sheikh al-Islam community of the Ottoman State. Furthermore, his affiliation with renowned ulama families, namely the Kawakibi and Galanbawi dynasties, further elevated his esteemed status within the Ilmiya class. This paper examined Sheikh al-Islam Mahmad Jamaladdin Efendi's lineage and genealogy, education and service life, and inheritance. The study details his scientific career, economic status, and service life. It provides information on his scientific career, financial status, and service tenure. Moreover, it determines his family members and heirs by utilizing the Sharia Registry Archive in the Qismat Military Court. The main aim of this paper is to shed light on Mahmad Jamaladdin Efendi's genealogy as the 19th-century Ottoman Sheikh al-Islam, his family background, socio-economic standing through inheritance, and his role within the Ilmiya organization based on his service life.
