Bu çalışma, genel olarak, dilbilimi bağlamında kavramsalcılıkla realizm arasında olan tartışmaya yoğunlaşmaktadır. Önde gelen bir argüman olarak Katz ve Postal tarafından ortaya atılan zorunluluk Argümanı ele alınmakta ve bu argüman Chomsky’nin kavramsalcı çerçevesi ile karşılaştırılarak analiz edilmektedir
