<p>The concept of role-based engagement—defined as the passion an employee feels for specific job roles and the time, energy, and effort invested in them—offers a holistic perspective that extends beyond traditional notions of employee engagement by incorporating individual meaning and subjective experience. Examining role-based engagement in multi-role work environments, such as universities, is particularly important for understanding both individual performance and organizational effectiveness. However, the national literature on engagement remains limited, partly due to the lack of valid and reliable measurement tools. This study aims to validate the Role-Based Engagement Scale developed by Young et al. (2020), which comprises 12 items across four dimensions. The scale was analyzed in terms of content, construct and criterion validity. The questionnaire form prepared in the final form of the scale was applied to university employees (n=188). For criterion validity, the relationships between the total scale and its sub dimensions with job satisfaction were analyzed and found to be positive and statistically significant. The results show that the scale has a four-factor structure including “organization engagement”, “job engagement”, “supervisor engagement” and “coworker engagement” in accordance with its original structure. Based on the results of the validity and reliability analyses, the Role-Based Engagement Scale can be considered a sound and applicable measurement tool for future research in the national context, offering a reliable means of capturing role-specific engagement among employees.</p></trans-abstract>
