The Relationship Between Emotional Stress and Oral Mucosa Diseases in Young Adults

Abstract

Thousands of young people who demand tostudy in university must pass the OSS exam aftergraduating from the high school. This study aimedto evaluate the relationship between emotionalstress and oral mucosa diseases. In this study, total number of 904 sampleswhose 592 were studying for the exam and 312 wereuniversity students as they passed the exam wereanalyzed for their emotional stress according to theDSM-III diagnostic statistical manual of mentaldisorders-III . Both the stress severity and the incidence of oral mucosa diseases related with emotional stress were evaluated. The results of this study showed that, both thestress frequents and incidence of oral mucosa diseases were significantly higher in students studying for the ÖSS exam when it was compared to thecontrol group. As a conclusion the incidence of oral mucosadiseases is higher in individuals with higher emotional stress

Genç erişkinlerde emosyonel stresle oral mukoza hastalıkları arasındaki ilişkinin klinik olarak araştırılması

Abstract

Ülkemizde her yıl binlerce genç, lise öğrenimlerini tamamladıktan sonra üniversite eğitimi alabilmek amacıyla ÖSS sınavına girmektedirler. Bu çal›şma, emosyonel stres ile oral mukoza hastal›klar› aras›ndaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmek amac›yla yap›lm›şt›r. Araşt›rma, ÖSS s›nav›na haz›rlanan 592 öğrenci ile, s›nav› kazanm›ş 312 öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 904 bireyde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bireylerin stres düzeyleri DSM-III Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders-III kapsam›ndaki analizlerle belirlenmiştir. Bireylere ait veriler değerlendirilerek, hem stres düzeyleri, hem de strese bağl› oral mukoza lezyonlar›n›n oluşma insidans› belirlenmiştir. ÖSS s›nav›na haz›rlanan bireylerde, s›nav› kazanm›ş gruba göre hem stres düzeyinin, hem de strese bağl› oral mukoza lezyonlar›n›n görülme insidans›n›n daha yüksek olduğu bulgulanm›şt›r. Sonuç olarak stresli bireylerde oral mukoza hastal›klar›n›n görülme s›kl›ğ› artmaktad›r.
