Orman yangınları orman mühendisliği, biyoloji, ekoloji, sosyoloji gibi pek çok bilim alanının konusu olabildiği gibi bütüncül bakış açısı ve insan-mekan ilişkisini incelemesiyle coğrafya biliminin de araştırma alanlarından olmalıdır. Coğrafya eğitimi açısından ise değer eğitimi, doğal ve kültürel mirasın gelecek nesillere aktarılması, insan-ekosistem ilişkisinin anlaşılması ve afet eğitimi boyutlarıyla bilinç oluşturma ve farkındalık yaratma açısından incelenmesi önemlidir. Bu çalışmada orman yangınlarının coğrafya eğitimi açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden literatür tarama ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma dört alt boyutuyla ele alınmıştır. Birinci alt boyutta ormanlar bir değer olarak incelenmiştir. İkinci alt boyutta ormanı oluşturan asli ağaç türlerinin başında gelen kızılçam incelenmiştir. Üçüncü alt boyutta ormanlar, insan-ekosistem ilişkisi, ekonomik etkinlikler-ekosistem ilişkisi açısından incelenmiştir. Dördüncü alt boyutta orman yangınları afetinin önlenmesi yangın öncesi ve sonrasında yapılacak farklı uygulama örnekleriyle incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda orman yangınları gibi ülkenin ekonomisini, doğal mirasını, insanların ekonomik yapılarını, insan-ekosistem ilişkisini son derece tahrip eden orman yangınlarıyla mücadelede coğrafya biliminin önemi ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
Forest fires can be a subject of many scientific fields such as forest engineering, biology, ecology, and sociology. Geography, with its holistic perspective and examination of the human-space relationship, should also be a research area. For geography education, examining them in terms of values education, the transmission of natural and cultural heritage to future generations, understanding the human-ecosystem relationship, and raising awareness and consciousness through disaster education is important. This study aims to examine forest fires from the perspective of geography education. The research was conducted using qualitative research methods and a literature review. The research was conducted in four sub-dimensions. The first sub-dimension examined forests as a value. The second sub-dimension examined red pine, a primary tree species that forms forests. The third sub-dimension examined forests in terms of the human-ecosystem relationship and the economic activities-ecosystem relationship. The fourth sub-dimension examined forest fire disaster prevention with examples of different pre- and post-fire practices. The research aims to highlight the importance of geography in combating forest fires, which can severely damage a country's economy, natural heritage, people's economic structures, and the human-ecosystem relationship.
