The Endourology Bulletin recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific research and publication. While AI-assisted technologies, such as large language models, chatbots, and image generators, can serve as valuable tools, their use must be transparently disclosed to maintain academic integrity and uphold ethical standards.
AI Usage Disclosure Requirements:
Authors must provide a detailed disclosure of AI usage in their manuscript in the following manner:
Acknowledgment Section: If AI-assisted technologies were used for writing support (e.g., grammar correction, paraphrasing, language enhancement), authors must explicitly acknowledge this in the acknowledgment section.
Methods Section: If AI tools were utilized for data collection, statistical analysis, figure generation, or any aspect of the research process, a detailed explanation must be provided in the methods section.
Authorship and AI Limitations:
AI cannot be credited as an author or co-author, as it cannot take responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accuracy of the research.
Authors must critically review and verify any AI-generated content to ensure compliance with scientific and ethical standards.
The responsibility for fact-checking, interpretation, and ethical compliance remains solely with the human authors.
Plagiarism and Ethical Compliance:
Authors must ensure that their manuscript contains no plagiarism and that all references—including AI-generated content—are properly cited. Failure to disclose AI usage or the inclusion of AI-generated content without appropriate verification may be considered a breach of publication ethics.
For further guidance on authorship roles and AI usage, please refer to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations.
