Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the possible physiological and genotoxic effects of 1,4 Dioxane and the protective role of green tea extract to this effects in Swiss albino mice. Albino mice divided into one control group and five practice groups randomly. The body weights before and after practice period, erythrocyte and bone marrow quantity and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities of Albino mice are determined through a sensitive balance, using micronucleus test and by using erythrocyte micronucleus test (EMT) and chromosomal abnormalities test (CAT), respectively. It is determined that 1,4 Dioxane practice causes a statistically important reduction of body weight and increase in MN and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities according to control group. Green tea practice improves these negative effects of 1,4 Dioxane and causes an increase in body weight and a decrease in MN and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities though less than control group. As a result, green tea practice can be used in reduction of toxicity caused by chemicals as a toxicity limiter antioxidant in near future.

1,4-DİOKSAN VERİLEN SWISS ALBİNO FARELERDE(♀) YEŞİL ÇAYIN BAZI FİZYOLOJİK VE GENOTOKSİK PARAMETRELER ÜZERİNE KORUYUCU ETKİSİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada 1,4 Dioksanın Swiss albino farelerde muhtemel fizyolojik ve genotoksik etkileri ile yeşil çay özütünün bu etkilere karşı koruyucu rolü araştırılmıştır. Albino fareler rastgele bir kontrol, beş uygulama olmak üzere toplam altı gruba ayrılmışlardır. Fizyolojik parametrelerin indikatörü olarak vücut ağırlığı, genotoksik parametrelerin indikatörleri olarak ise mikronükleus (MN) ve kromozomal anormallik sıklıkları kullanılmıştır. 1,4 Dioksan uygulamasının kontrol grubuna göre vücut ağırlığında istatistiksel açıdan önemli bir azalmaya, MN ve kromozomal anormallik sıklığında ise bir artışa neden olduğu belirlenmiştir. Yeşil çay uygulaması ise 1,4 Dioksanın söz konusu olumsuz etkilerini iyileştirerek, kontrol grubu kadar olmasada vücut ağırlığında tekrar bir artışa, MN ve kromozomal anormallik sıklıklarında ise bir azalmaya neden olmuştur. Sonuç olarak yeşil çay uygulaması yakın gelecekte kimyasallar tarafından sebep olunan toksisitenin azaltılmasında “toksisite sınırlayıcı” bir antioksidan olarak kullanılabilir.
