                                                                                                <abstract><p>İlk çağlardan itibaren insanlar beslenmek ve sağlık sorunlarını gidermek amacıyla bitkilere başvurmuşlardır. Mitolojide de bitkiler tanrıların insana verdiği en değerli armağan olarak ele alınmıştır. Mitolojiden günümüze uzun bir hikayesi olan Melissa officinalis (Oğulotu, Melisa) bir Akdeniz bitkisi olup, yurdumuzda da yetişen çok yıllık otsu bir türdür. Dioscorides, İbn-i Sina, Paracelsus ve John Evelyn tarafından çeşitli hastalıkların tedavisinde bitkisel ilaç olarak kullanılmıştır. Günümüzde ise özellikle yatıştırıcı, midevi, gaz söktürücü, terletici ve antiseptik etkilerinden dolayı kullanımı bulunmaktadır.</p></abstract>

                            <p>From the early ages people have resorted to the plants to get nutrition and solve health problems. In mythology, plants are considered to be the most valuable gift that gods have given to human. Melissa officinalis (balm, melisa) which has a long-time story of in mythology, is a mediterranean herb and is a perennial herbaceous species that grows in our country. It has been used by Dioscorides, Avicenna, Paracelsus and John Evelyn as herbal medicines in the treatment of various diseases. Today, it is used especially because of sedative, gastric, antitussive, diaphoretic and antiseptic effects.</p></trans-abstract>
