                                                                                                <abstract><p>Amerikalı yazar Willa Cather (1873-1947) günümüzde çevreci akımlar için ilham kaynağı olan birçok eserinde, insanı doğadan üstün değil, doğanın içinde ve ona ait bir varlık olarak tanımlar. Cather’ın 1928 yılında yazdığı ‘Komşum Rosicky’ adlı öyküsü, şehirde doğup büyüyen, ancak hızlı sanayileşmenin, maddecilik ve modernleşmenin getirdiği sorunların çirkinliğini görerek kırsal yaşamı seçen bir kahramanı ele alır. Rosicky’nin hayat felsefesi, insanı değil doğayı merkez edinen ve toprağa dayalı olan ‘Yeni Tarımcı’ ilkelerle örtüşür:  kendi toprağının efendisi olma, bütüncül zaman kavramı, güçlü bir mekân duyarlılığı, aile ve geçmişe bağlılık ve tüketim toplumu özelliklerini ret gibi. Otuz beş yaşından sonra çiftçiliği öğrenen Rosicky, hayatı ve ölümü olduğu gibi kabul eder, elindekilerin keyfini çıkarır, kendine yetenden fazlası için çalışmaz ve çocuklarının da bu hayat tarzını benimsemesi için gayret gösterir. Evrensel erdemleri vurgulayan kahraman, kibar, yardımsever ve anlayışlıdır; bütüncül bir hayat görüşünü benimsemiş, bu yolda kendini gerçekleştirmiştir.</p></abstract>
