Ecofeminism in the Context of the Ethics of Care

Abstract

Ecofeminism is a ‘hybrid’ political ecological approach that approaches ecological problems from a feminist perspective and proposes solutions. Linking the domination of women with the domination of nature, ecofeminists argue that the human-nature relationship must be re-established in a healthy way in order to prevent the oppression of women. The aim of this study, which is based on the literature review technique, is to reveal the criticisms of ecofeminism against the moral perception underlying the current harmful practices against nature and its suggestions for the reconstruction of the moral relations between human and nature. The main claim of the study is that ecofeminist environmental ethics is based on the idea of care ethics, which emphasises relationality, contextuality and responsibility. Ecofeminism expands the boundaries of the ethics of care and argues that in order to solve the ecological crisis, nature should be cared for, given space and allowed to reproduce and develop. In this context, ecofeminist environmental ethics, which is derived from the idea of care, centres on the idea that all earthly beings should be respected and cared for, all ‘environmental voices’ should be listened to and diversity should be sensitive.

İhtimam Etiği Bağlamında Ekofeminizm

Abstract

Ekofeminizm, ekolojik sorunlara feminist bir perspektifle yaklaşan ve çözüm önerileri getiren “melez” bir siyasal ekolojik yaklaşımdır. Kadınların tahakkümü ile doğanın tahakkümü arasında bağlantı kuran ekofeministler, ataerkil yapının oluşturduğu militarist, hiyerarşik ve doğanın yok edildiği bir toplumun ötesinde yeni bir toplumun inşasına dair ortak bir tahayyülü paylaşmakta ve kadınların ezilmesinin önlenebilmesi için insan-doğa ilişkisinin yeniden ve sağlıklı bir şekilde kurulması gerektiğini savunmaktadırlar. Literatür incelemesine dayalı olarak hazırlanan bu çalışmanın amacı ekofeminizmin; doğaya karşı mevcut zararlı uygulamaların altında yatan ahlâki algıya yönelik eleştirileri ile insan-doğa arasındaki ahlâki ilişkilerin yeniden inşasına yönelik önerileri bağlamında çevre etiği yaklaşımını ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın temel iddiası ekofeminist çevre etiğinin; ilişkisellik, bağlamsallık ve sorumluluk vurgusuyla öne çıkan ihtimam etiği fikrine dayandığı yönündedir. Ekofeminizm ihtimam etiğinin sınırlarını genişleterek ekolojik krizin çözümü adına doğaya ihtimam gösterilmesi, alan tanınması, onun çoğalmasına ve gelişmesine izin verilmesi gerektiğini savunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda ihtimam düşüncesinden mülhem ekofeminist çevre etiği, tüm dünyevi varlıklara saygı ve özen gösterilmesi, tüm “çevresel seslerin” dinlenmesi ve çeşitliliğe duyarlı olunması gerektiği düşüncesini merkeze almaktadır.
