On The Place and Importance of Values in Kuhn’s Conception of Science

Abstract

The aim of this work is to illuminate and clarify the place and importance of values in Kuhn's conception of science. For this purpose, especially Kuhn’s chief works has been studied comparatively and based on those, this article reaches a conclusion. According to this conclusion, it is clear that Kuhn has used the concept of value in two different meanings. One of these two different meanings has been employed in SSR1 The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, 1962 , and the other one has been employed in SSR2 The Postscript of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, which has been later added to the book in 1969 . In addition, this article makes the observation that values in SSR1 are more decisive than those in BDY2 in scientific processe

KUHN’UN BİLİM TASARIMINDA DEĞERLERİN YERİ VE ÖNEMİ ÜZERİNE

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Kuhn'un bilim tasarımında değerlerin yeri ve önemini aydınlatmak ve açıklığa kavuşturmaktır. Bu maksatla özellikle Kuhn’un temel eserleri karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde incelenerek bir sonuca varılmıştır. Bu sonuca göre, Kuhn’un bilim tasarımında değer kavramının iki farklı anlamda kullanıldığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bunlardan birisi, BDY1’de Bilimsel Devrimlerin Yapısı, 1962 , diğeri ise BDY2’de Bilimsel Devrimlerin Yapısına eklenen sonsöz 1969 kullanılan değerlerdir. Ayrıca BDY1’deki değerlerin bilimsel süreçte daha belirleyici olduğu görülmüştür
