Home health care services have a lot of benefits, including decrease in patient recorvery time, decreased risk of infection, decreased stress, strengthened familyties, reduced need for nursing home care, increased quality and length of life. Day by day it is gaining a more important role in the health sector. Our study was planned and performed to determine the need for home health care services what the individual home health care .needs care, what physical, social and other factors affected that need, as well as how and by whom the care was provided. Data was collected from the institution managers using a multiple choice questionaire, which was based on the literature. In addition, som~ of the data was gathered using a literature-based interview form . Data was evaluated using the "percentage test". In conclusion, those most in need of home health care services were found to be the 60-80 years old age group (% 44) and those with physical limitations due to CVA and paraplegia (% 31 ). A large percentage of the patients (%66) are dissatisfied with the care because "it is provided by untrained personnel". Most of the home health care is provided by private care agencies (%73), it was found that% 76 of the facilities had no standarts of care, that none of them had an organized home care department, that % 82
had no home care team and that most of facility directors had only a high sc;hool education. Based on these conclusions, home care agencies for the elderly should be the first priority, personnel and managers should be trained and developed, the number of hospital -supported home care agencies should be increased, private nursing agencies should improve the quality of their services, facilities should investigate methods for payment and reimbursement, patients and patient families should be better educated with recommendations is presented.
