This study aims to analyze the visuals containing gender findings in four science books approved to be taught at the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade levels of secondary school in the 2021-2022 academic year based on the objectives in the science curriculum updated in 2018. In science books, the number of images of males and females, the professions of females and males, the people they were shown together, the places they were in, and their actions in the visuals were examined. In this study, one of the qualitative research methods, document analysis technique was used, and data analysis was performed with the content analysis technique. As a result of the study, it was found that male visuals were included more in books at all grade levels, male images were represented more in many professional groups, more males were portrayed in different places and more male visuals were included in most actions than females. Females’ pictures were included less in books in terms of visuals, and within the scope of the elements investigated, they were given less space in the books than in the background when compared with male visuals. In this way, it was exhibited that men were more important and visible, and it was determined that there was an unequal situation in terms of the representation of gender roles in books, and gender roles were exhibited in the context of the hidden curriculum. In the process of preparing, controlling, and teaching textbooks, it is important that educators should also be informed and aware of gender roles. At the end of the study, suggestions were given about the improvable points within the scope of gender.
Bu araştırmanın amacı 2018 yılında güncellenen fen bilimleri öğretim programındaki kazanımları temel alan 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında ortaokul 5, 6, 7 ve 8. sınıf düzeyinde okutulmasına onay verilen 4 adet fen bilimleri ders kitabında bulunan cinsiyet bulgusu içeren görsellerin toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri bağlamında analiz edilmesidir. Fen bilimleri ders kitapları; kız-erkek görsellerine yer verilme sayılarına, kızların ve erkeklerin sahip oldukları mesleklere, bunların bir arada gösterildiği kişilere, bulundukları mekânlara ve görsellerdeki eylemlerine yönelik inceleme yapılmıştır. Çalışmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinde birisi olan doküman analizi tekniği kullanılmış olup içerik analizi tekniğiyle de verilerin analizi yapılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda tüm sınıf seviyelerindeki ders kitaplarında erkek görsellerine daha fazla yer verildiği, erkek görsellerin birçok meslek grubunda daha fazla oranda temsil edildiği, farklı mekanlarda daha çok resmedildiği ve çoğu eylemlerde kızlardan daha fazla görsellerde yer aldığı bulunmuştur. Kız resimleri ise hem görseller açısından ders kitaplarında daha az yer almış, hem de araştırılan unsurlar kapsamında ders kitaplarında daha arka planda, erkek görsellerine oranla daha az yer verilmiştir. Bu doğrultuda; fen bilimleri ders kitaplarında erkeklerin daha önemli ve göz önünde olduğu sergilenmiş ve ders kitaplarında cinsiyet rollerinin temsili bakımından eşit olmayan durumun olduğu tespit edilerek cinsiyet rollerinin örtük öğretim programlar ekseninde sergilendiği belirlenmiştir. Ders kitaplarının hazırlanması, kontrol edilmesi ve okullarda okutulması sürecinde görevli eğitimcilerin toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri konusunda da bilgi sahibi ve farkındalığı olması önem arz etmektedir. Çalışma sonucunda toplumsal cinsiyet kapsamında geliştirilebilir noktalara yönelik önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
