A Research on the Relationship between Secondary Education Students and Writing

Abstract

Writing skills are seen as top skills among language skills. It is an important part of Turkish language and literature courses at secondary education. The study was carried out in order to reveal the interest to writing of the secondary school students. The study was conducted in the 2016-2017 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 75 high school students in the city center of Kırşehir. In qualitative design, the data were collected by interview method and analyzed by descriptive analysis technique. According to the results of the research, a significant number of students are not interested in writing. Students have shown that they can not express their thoughts by writing as the most important reason. A significant number of students have stated that Turkish language and literature lessons do not improve their writing skills. The reason for this is that they do not have activities to improve writing skills. There is a significant amount of students who think they can not express themselves by writing.
