Bu çalışmanın amacı, Tip 2 Diyabetes Mellitus (T2DM) hastalarında ayak taban duyusunun fonksiyonel ambulasyon düzeyi ile ilişkisini incelemektir.  Çalışmaya 38 T2DM hastası (yaş ort±ss=54,60±16,19 yıl) ve 17 sağlıklı (yaş ort±ss=52,35±8,25 yıl) birey alındı. Bireylerin ayak tabanı hafif dokunma-basınç eşiği (Semmes-Weinstein monoflament) ve iki nokta ayrımı mesafesi (esteziometre) ayak tabanının 6 farklı bölgesinden (başparmak, 1. metatars, 5. metatars, orta ayak mediali ve laterali, topuk) bilateral olarak değerlendirildi. Fonksiyonel ambulasyon düzeylerinin belirlenmesinde ise Süreli kalk ve yürü testi kullanıldı. Sağlıklı kontroller ile karşılaştırıldığında, T2DM hastalarının hafif dokunma-basınç duyu eşiğinin ve iki nokta ayrımı mesafesinin anlamlı derecede arttığı belirlendi (p<0,05). T2DM hastalarında ayak tabanı hafif dokunma-basınç duyu eşiği (r=0,400-0,569, p<0,05) ve iki nokta ayrım mesafesi arttıkça (r=0,329-0,414, p<0,05), fonksiyonel ambulasyon düzeyinin azaldığı gözlendi. Ayak taban duyusu azalan T2DM’li hastaların fonksiyonel ambulasyon düzeyleri de azalmaktadır. T2DM’li hastalarda fonksiyonel ambulasyon düzeyindeki azalmada ayak tabanı derin ve yüzeyel duyularındaki kayıp da dikkate alınmalıdır.
